The Sound of Music - truth or Hollywood glamour?

And if you want to know what life was like for the real Trapp family - here's a reality check of the true Trapp story: Georg Freiherr von Trapp was originally a naval officer. But after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, his career came to an end. Worse still, after the death of his wife Agathe in 1925, he was left alone with seven children. And this is where Maria came into play - the convent student from Nonnberg Abbey, who was hired as a tutor and quickly fell in love with the family and ultimately with the baron. Two years later: marriage, three more children and a musical family business. A classic plot twist: the Trapps lose their entire fortune due to a bank failure. The solution? Music! Maria formed a choir from the children, which quickly became famous. From winning the Salzburg Singing Competition to performing in New York - the family became world-famous. And the happy ending? After fleeing from the Nazis, they built a new life for themselves in the USA.
Whether as a film or a true story - the Trapps are a real Salzburg phenomenon. So get your camera out, turn up the soundtrack and off you go on a journey through the legendary film locations and the true story behind ‘The Sound of Music’!
