From 2 to 6 September 2026, the Flavourama Festival brings the international hip hop and house dance scene to Salzburg – for the 18th time. What started as a battle in 2006 is now one of Europe's defining street and club dance festivals: dancers from all over the world come together in the city of Salzburg for battles, workshops, performances and parties.

At the heart of it are the Flavourama World Finals at SZENE Salzburg, where the top 16 go head to head in the hip hop and house categories, and the Preselection at the Mozarteum's Solitär. On top of that: dance workshops at SEAD, the Next Generation Battle for kids and teens at the Museum der Moderne, panel talks at the Rockhouse and the legendary afterparty at Jazzit. Things kick off even earlier, on 27 August 2026, with the Flavourama Performatory at the Museum der Moderne. Many formats are free or low-threshold, others are ticketed – a festival that deliberately brings the scene and the wider city audience together.

From 10 to 13 September, Take The A-Train turns Salzburg's Elisabeth-Vorstadt into a musical hub for four days – this year already in its 12th edition. The festival around the main station thrives on contrast: large open-air stages and intimate off-locations, international names and young acts from Salzburg.

The 2026 line-up includes Matthew Herbert, Joe Armon-Jones, Alfa Mist, The Necks and Martyn, alongside jazz, electronic music, hip hop and experimental sound formats. The limited festival pass gets you into every event, and you can also book individual concerts separately. That's exactly what makes Take The A-Train a festival for the curious: short distances, an easy-going atmosphere and venues you'd otherwise never set foot in.

The Salzburger Rupertikirtag is the city's largest folk festival, and in 2026 it celebrates the 49th Domkirchweihfest zu Ruperti, the cathedral's patronal feast. Traditionally the celebrations take place around 24 September, the name day of Salzburg's patron saint Rupert, and fill the entire Old Town: for five days, Alter Markt, Residenzplatz, Mozartplatz, Domplatz and Kapitelplatz are all about traditional dress, craft and custom.

You can expect a mix of the artisan market at Alter Markt, fairground rides for the whole family, folk music, the Bindertanz coopers' dance and the Salzburg Civic Guard, plus a festival tent serving regional cuisine – better to reserve a table in advance for that one. New this year are guided behind-the-scenes tours of the Kirtag, where stallholders, showmen and innkeepers tell you first-hand how a festival like this actually comes together.

At the Rupertikirtag, Salzburg shows its unvarnished side – this is the city celebrating for itself. From the HOTEL andrä you can walk straight into the Old Town and onto the festival grounds; from the HOTEL max70 and HOTEL junior you take the bus in and simply leave the car at the hotel. Since the last weekend in September books up well in Salzburg, it's best to secure your room early.

Four days, free admission, the whole Old Town as a stage: Jazz&TheCitysounds runs from 15 to 18 October 2026 and has been a fixture in Salzburg's calendar for over 25 years. Churches, wine bars, courtyards and squares open their doors, international artists play together in a wonderfully unforced way, and you drift from venue to venue.

The programme spans jazz, world music and electronic sounds, big names as well as newcomers. Particularly appealing are the blind dates, where musicians meet in front of an audience for the very first time, and the improv slots, where moments emerge that will never happen quite that way again. All venues are within walking distance of one another – your festival visit turns into a stroll through the autumn Old Town all by itself.

From the HOTEL andrä you're back in your room within minutes of the last set, and from the HOTEL max70 and HOTEL junior the bus takes you straight into the centre. October is one of the loveliest and quietest times to visit Salzburg: culture without the crowds. You'll find the full programme here.

When the first snow falls and the mountain lifts start running, arguably the finest time of year begins in SalzburgerLand – the winter season. And here, it traditionally starts with plenty of atmosphere.

In Flachau, the 2026 winter opening is celebrated with a whole weekend of music at the SNOW FESTIVAL – on 4 & 5 December there are live acts and plenty of mountain air for the perfect start to the season.

Things get a little louder in Saalbach: at the legendary Rave on Snow, electronic music meets snow-covered mountains. From 10 to 13 December, Saalbach becomes a festival location at over 1,000 metres – with international DJs, open-air stages and club sessions late into the night.

And if you prefer the classic version, the Skiopening in Obertauern from 27 November to 8 December is exactly right: freshly groomed slopes, live concerts and that typical Tauern atmosphere somewhere between snowfall and party mood.

From 19 November, that special magic settles over Salzburg once again: the Salzburger Christkindlmarkt on Domplatz and Residenzplatz opens its gates and brings light, music and the scent of punch to the Old Town.

The Salzburger Christkindlmarkt on Domplatz and Residenzplatz is one of the oldest and most atmospheric Christmas markets in the world. From 19 November 2026 to 1 January 2027, Salzburg's Old Town transforms into a scene of glowing lights, warm punch and handcrafted goods. Between the cathedral, the Residenz and Hohensalzburg Fortress, traditional huts line up with regional delicacies, handmade nativity scenes and Salzburg specialities. Every day, choirs in front of the cathedral, the traditional Turmblasen brass performances and the nativity trail create a true Salzburg Advent.
